Albert H. Rathje

Albert H. Rathje, 77, died Saturday February 2, 2019 in Bay Shore, NY. Husband of Jean (nee Dillon), loving father of Colin (Susan), Raegan (Dave), Kyle (Annemarie) and Coty (Bob). Beloved Poppy to Jessica, Elysa (Rob), Robert, Cara, Nick, David, Emily, J.J., Sarah, Alan and Brandon. Great-grandfather to Robert and Ryan. 

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Springfield Gardens, Al joined the U.S. Navy as an underage sailor. He served on the U.S.S. Cassin Young and the U.S.S. Davis. Honorably discharged he married and moved to Malverne where he was a member of the Fire Department and long-time employee of the D.P.W. 

Al was an avid motorcyclist and animal lover. We will dearly miss his twinkly blue eyes, quick smile, and unique sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the AMVETS National Service Foundation.
