Irene Green lived a very full and active 81 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend.
Irene was born near Berlin, Germany in 1938. After World War II she came to America at the young age of 18 and met her husband, Bill, in Schenectady, NY. She married Bill in 1959 and together they raised their two children, Scott and Judi. Irene and Bill loved to travel in the US and Europe, and they were always up for an adventure. She and Bill were happily married for 31 years. After Bill’s death in 1990, Irene found fulfillment in being a fragrance model, where she enjoyed the fast-paced retail energy and she was a successful saleswoman.
Irene loved to dance, attend cultural events, and collect interesting antiques. She was very proud of her German heritage and was active with German clubs and organizations. She joined her children and grandchildren on countless memorable vacations. She always loved a good bargain and enjoyed the hunt of finding a treasure. She was an active volunteer at her church thrift shop and loved having her annual garage sale. She also made the most amazing cheesecake!
In later years she loved spending time with her children and two grandchildren, Eric and Alex. She traveled often to Philadelphia and attended many of her grandchildren’s school events. Irene loved flowers and enjoyed annual visits with Judi to the beautiful Philadelphia flower show as well as walks in local gardens. Irene loved New York City and looked forward to her frequent trips into Manhattan to spend time with Scott. Irene and Scott enjoyed many fine dinners, drinks, museums, and entertainment in New York.
Irene was adored by her family, many friends, and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all.
In her own words “Zum Wohl” (here’s to health and life)!
