Janet E McDougall

McDougall – Janet E.  Born March 23, 1934 on Staten Island, New York and died October 14, 2018 in Lynbrook, New York.  Beloved wife of Ian for 64 years and cherished mother of Alan (Debbie), Pamela, and Laurie Murchison (Ben).  Wonderful daughter of the late George and Alicia Nielsen and caring daughter-in-law of John and Mary McDougall.  Delightful grandmother of Jonathan Alan McDougall, Justin Scott McDougall, Alanna Marie McDougall, Janet Aileen Murchison, Ian Spence Murchison, and James McDougall Murchison.  Devoted sister to James Nielsen (deceased), Elaine Merrell, Doris Nielsen, Phyllis Garrett, and Gerald Nielsen.  Loving Aunt to many fun-loving nieces and nephews.   Precious Godmother to Elaine Ruth McCaleb.   Janet was a graduate of Tottenville High School on Staten Island and attended Hunter College and Pace University in New York City.  She was an active and revered member of Grace Lutheran Church in Malverne, New York since 1964, serving on the church’s Board of Trustees for several years.  Reflecting her love for children and her heart for God, Janet taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, (also acting as Sunday School Superintendent for many of those years), and ran Vacation Bible Schools as well.  In addition, she was a dedicated member of, and served on the Metropolitan Area Board for, Aglow International, a global Christian evangelical organization.  Janet was also an avid athlete who ran long distance every day and competed in area races.  Her biggest joys were her love for God, her family, and animals. Reposing at Flinch and Bruns, 34 Hempstead Avenue, Lynbrook, NY on Thursday, October 18th, with viewings from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 19th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Malverne, NY.  Internment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Largo, Florida, where Janet and her beloved husband Ian have a second home.
