Our mother was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 11, 1923. Her parents, Andrea and Ines were Italian immigrants.
Growing up in Harlem, NY, she met our father at a Boys Club dance. They married on June 23,1946. Mom wore a beautiful wedding gown which her aunt in Italy had made for her.
Mom and Dad got an apartment on Ditmars Blvd in Queens which was over a shoemaker’s shop.
They started a family and after Louise and Linda were born, moved to Astoria where Marian was born.
Realizing their family was growing, they bought a home in Malverne and moved in the day after Christmas in 1957. In February 1958, their first son Robert was born.
John, their second son and last child came along in 1964.
Mom has welcomed fifteen grandchildren born throughout the years, and then became a great grandmother to three!! And still counting
Mom got a secretarial job at Davison Avenue School which she loved. She worked there many years and enjoyed every minute.
She was active in the church, Our Lady of Lourdes ,and through her love of singing, became a member of the choir. She also was a lector at Mass for many years.
Retirement afforded her time to be with her friends. She loved going to Bingo at St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus, and especially loved her trips to AC.
She loved reading and devoured books !!! Doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles was another favorite pastime. And of course, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune wrapped up the day for her before bedtime.
