Catalina Tatis Zapata, was born on October 26, 1928, in Hato Viejo, Castanuelas, a province of Montecristi, in the Dominican Republic. She was a woman of caliber, a one-of-a-kind rare breed. She was a strong willed and strong-minded woman, focused on progress and growth. She single-handedly brought her children and siblings to the Unites States, so that she could leave the legacy of determination that lives on within her 5 remaining children, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was strong and did everything she set her mind on doing. From country girl to city girl to business owner. From immigrant to American citizen and world traveler. She worked nonstop, loved her novellas and Caso Cerrado, she had healing hands and made remedies for all our ailments and was the best cook. We all have endless stories to tell about “La Vieja” and they reveal the special way she showed her love to us all. We love her and miss her. May the example of her strength and tenacity remain in our hearts forever.
