Catherine Haire

Catherine Flynn Hunter Haire, 83, of East Meadow, NY, passed away on July 2nd, 2022 after a very long battle with Alzheimer’s. 

Catherine was born on May 24th, 1939 to Christena and Christopher Flynn in New York, NY. After graduating from St. Helena’s in 1957, she went on to be an administrator for the Legal Aid Society. She remained with the Legal Aid Society until she retired in early 2001. 

On May 12th, 1962, Catherine and James Hunter, Jr. married. They went on to have 4 children: James, Kenneth, Christopher, and Joanne. James and Catherine later divorced in 1972. 

On July 11th, 1981, Catherine would marry her second love, Harrison “Harry” Haire, Jr. They remained together in love until Harry passed in December 1992. 

Catherine is predeceased by her parents, Christena and Christopher Flynn; her brother and sister, James and Mary Flynn; her husband, Harrison Haire, Jr.; her first husband, James Hunter, Jr.; her three sons, Kenneth Hunter, Christopher Hunter, and James Hunter III; and her granddaughter Meghan Hunter. 

She is survived by her sister, Eileen (Flynn) Cronin; her daughter, Joanne (Hunter) Handel; her son-in-law, Timothy Handel; her daughter-in-laws, MaryEllen (Rogers) Hunter and Ann Marie (LoScalzo) Hunter; her grandchildren, Kenneth Handel, Erin (Handel) Sandgren, Kathleen (Handel) Maltese, Lauren Hunter, Hannah Hunter, Elizabeth Hunter, Kerry Hunter, and Colleen Hunter; her two grandson-in-laws, Nicholas Maltese and Evan Sandgren; and one great-grandchild, Finnegan Sandgren.
