Cathy Jane Leary... This amazing woman, known affectionately as “The Queen”, lived a life with family, love and of course… sparkle.
Cathy’s sparkle revealed its twinkle in many aspects of her life. Whether it was her personal style (which literally had sparkle), her holiday decorating skills, the charm of her home, or that glimmer that you would see in her eyes when she gave you that big smile of hers. She was beautiful in so many ways and that sparkle was so evident throughout her life.
Born in Brooklyn to Joseph and Catherine Loporchio on June 27, 1948, Cathy was the second of five kids. Her sisters Margaret and Carolyn along with her brothers Joe and Peter grew up in a house with strong family values connected by the unconditional love they all shared for each other.
That family love and bond, instilled in her growing up, always remained in Cathy’s life. She married John Leary and had three children together: Kathleen, Johnny, and Jennifer. While there were times when money was scarce, there was always an abundance of love. The one thing about Cathy… once you are in her heart, you are forever loved unconditionally.
As the years went on, her three kids each had 2 kids of their own. Cathy’s six grandchildren: Christopher, Michael, Jack, Jenna, Anthony, and Dominic experienced the magic of “Grammy”. She loved to decorate the house during the holidays to bring a smile to her grandchildren’s faces. She showered her grandchildren with gifts and kisses and hugs. She had a unique bond with each of them in the same way that she had a unique bond with everyone else in her family. It was truly special.
Cathy also had a special love for Ronnie Cione, her life partner. Talk about two peas in a pod… Ronnie was able to bring out even more beauty in Cathy’s personality that wasn’t always evident. And she in turn did the same for him. They connected and relied on each other like a perfectly coordinated dance. She meant the world to Ronnie and he meant the world to her.
Cathy passed on to heaven on October 24, 2023. Her life was, absolutely, a life worth celebrating.
