Elisabeth Mohr was born in Merzenich, Germany on October 27, 1932. It was there that she spent much of her early years, living with her parents as well as her brother Josef and sister Helena near the city of Düren. Elisabeth and her family survived multiple air raids during World War II, much of their city having been destroyed. After the war, she met her husband, Franz, during a live music performance. They caught each other’s eye while Franz was playing the violin, and from that moment forward the two were inseparable. Elisabeth moved to America in 1962 at the age of 30 with her husband, Franz, and their sons, Peter and Michael. They later welcomed a daughter, Ellen. The family enjoyed a wonderful life in America, full of promise and opportunity.
In settling into her new home in Lynbrook, New York, Elisabeth found a passion for interior design. She had an eye for curating timeless and inviting spaces within her home, admired and enjoyed by her family and friends. The beautiful home that she created even earned her an award from the town. Elisabeth also spent many years working in corporate operations at Lufthansa, a career that she very much enjoyed. Her greatest passion of all, however, was raising her three children. She traveled the world with her husband and enjoyed many summer vacations in the Adirondacks with her family. She loved flowers and had a special appreciation for nature. She also loved animals, and was known for spoiling the dogs of the family. Elisabeth lived a life deeply rooted in her Christian faith. Her unwavering commitment to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life, inspiring those around her to embrace compassion, kindness, and a sense of community.
Elisabeth passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on August 27, 2023 at the age of 90. She leaves behind her Son Michael and his wife Donna, her daughter Ellen and her husband Gary, seven grandchildren: Lauren, Megan, Carina, Ryan, Joseph, Kayla, and Christian, as well as four great-grandchildren: Nora, Lincoln, Shane, and Kinsley. She is greeted in heaven by her husband, Franz, and their son, Peter. Elisabeth will be missed tremendously and will forever hold a place in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
