Elizabeth "Betty" McCormack

Elizabeth (Betty) McCormack passed away on October 10, 2022. She was born in the Bronx on August 9, 1937. She had three brothers: Johnny, Jimmy, Bobby, and her sister Dotty. She went to school at Our Lady of Mercy grammar school and the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula High School. Despite being offered a scholarship to college, Betty decided to go to secretarial school and soon began to work in New York City.  

In 1959 she married Patrick Joseph (Joe) McCormack, and they began their family in the Bronx. In 1972 with their three boys, they bought a home in Valley Stream. 

In 1982, Joe passed away and Betty raised her kids. She had several secretarial jobs, her favorite being the secretary of Blessed Sacrament grammar school in Valley Stream and working for Filos Insurance in Long Beach. 

Betty, a faithful daughter of the Church, received communion and prayed her rosary daily for most of her life.

She enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner, but, most of all, being with her family. Betty would love to hear about the latest adventures of her family, especially the grandchildren. She was grateful for being able to hold her great-grandson a few weeks ago. 

Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Kevin and Regina, Robert and Patricia, Christopher and Gilda; her grandchildren: Lauren, Allison, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Patrick, Elizabeth, Arthur, Kristina, and Mark; and her great-grandson Jackson; her brother-in-law Vincent and several beloved nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
