Elsa "Doris" Bennett (nee Constenoble) was born on June 27, 1928, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, to Erich and Elsa Constenoble. She lived in Brooklyn, New York before moving to Malverne, New York in 1937 where she would reside for the remainder of her life. She graduated from Malverne High School and later from Adelphi's School of Nursing in 1949. On August 21, 1948, Doris wed Robert Bennett, a returning World War II veteran, and had three children, Susan, Erich, and Pamela. After first working as a nurse on the obstetrics and gynecology floor at Meadowbrook Hospital and later at South Nassau, she took a job as school nurse for Davison Avenue Elementary in Malverne. She retired in 1989 and devoted herself entirely to her husband, children, and nine grandchildren. She attended every baseball game, every sleepaway visiting day, and wrapped every Christmas gift and Easter basket meticulously. She was the much-loved matriarch of her family and is survived by her three children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
