Celebrating the life of Elvira Maffucci
Elvira (Intermaggio) Maffucci, age 96, formerly of Rockville Centre and Oceanside, New York passed away peacefully in her sleep March 27, 2022. A lifelong Long Islander, she graduated Oceanside High School in 1943 and was a member of the National Honor Society. In 1948, Elvira received her Bachelor of Arts from Adelphi College and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After college, she taught first and sixth grades in the Oceanside and Bellmore school districts. Born September 13, 1925, Elvira was the youngest of six children . In 1949, she married Michael A. Maffucci of Lynbrook, a local businessman. They were happily married for 25 years, until his passing in 1974. They had four children.
Elvira loved music and played the violin in high school. She loved to sing, particularly silly songs from her childhood, but she also had an appreciation for classical music, especially opera. She was an outstanding cook, baker and organizer extraordinaire; yet, what she loved most was spending time with, and entertaining, family and friends.
Elvira is survived by her children Marie Coutu ( the late Gene), Kathleen Scoma (Robert), Michael A. Maffucci Jr. (Kathleen), and Nancy L. Maffucci (Daniel Cillis). Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Nicole and James Scoma; Michael and Gregory Coutu; Gina and Michael Maffucci and great-grandmother of the late Kyle, Arianna, Gemma and Rocco. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
