Gail Corso Obituary

Gail Corso, née Zimmermann, 63, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023 at the Good Shepherd Hospice Center in Rockville Centre, New York, after fighting a courageous battle against lung cancer. She made her transition surrounded by her loving family, who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Gail was born in Oceanside, NY, the daughter of Alice Zimmermann and the late William V. Zimmermann. She was known for having a big, generous heart that gave boundless love and affection to her family and friends. She was also known for her great cooking. Her eggplant parmesan, in particular, was the best anyone ever tasted. Gail was a devoted mother to her daughter, Cassie, and was present when Cassie gave birth to her grandson Jo-An. Nine-year-old Jo-An, nicknamed “JJ,” was especially close with his “Grammy” and enjoyed many sleepovers and good times with her.

Throughout her illness, Gail remained upbeat, positive, and never lost her sense of humor. She enjoyed visits from friends and family members, and could keep everyone in the room laughing at her jokes and particular way with language.

Gail was always good with numbers. For the past 18 years, she was employed as an Accounts Payable Specialist with EMO Trans, a global freight management company.

Family, friends, and coworkers will miss Gail forever. She is survived by her mother Alice; daughter Cassie Corso and her partner Jo-An Pontier-Perdomo; grandson JJ Pontier-Perdomo; sister Jean (Andy) Genovese; sister Carol (Ben) Holquist; brother Bill (Mary) Zimmermann; brother Keith Zimmermann; nephew Andrew Genovese; nieces Meghan Holquist and Kristina Zimmermann; uncle Bob Ness; and several cousins.

Gail’s family wishes to thank the entire staff of the oncology infusion and patient care units at Mercy Hospital, and the staff of the Good Shepherd Hospice Center for their outstanding care of Gail during her illness and final transition. They also thank Gail’s friends for visiting her often, sharing meals and laughs, and keeping Gail company.

A memorial visitation in honor of Gail will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a special Time of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 16 at Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home, 34 Hempstead Avenue, Lynbrook, NY.
