Ian McDougall Obituary

Ian McDougall, age 92, was born in Hamilton, Scotland to John and Mary McDougall and passed away at his home in Lynbrook, New York on October 11, 2023. He was the beloved husband of his late wife, Janet, for more than 64 years, the cherished father to his son Alan (wife Debbie), daughter Pamela, and daughter Laurie Murchison (husband Ben), and the doting grandfather to his six grandchildren Jonathan, Justin, Alanna, Janet, Ian, and James. His two sisters Una Soracca and Aileen Kirk predeceased him.

Ian came to the United States( New York ) when he was 16 years old, and joined a company called International Nickel Company, later known as Inco Limited, one of the world's premier mining and metals companies and one of the companies whose stock was included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. on December 1, 1995. He rose through the ranks to become Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer and was also a member of Inco's Board of Directors from 1977 until his retirement in 1995. Following his retirement, he acted as consultant to Inco Limited until December 2000.

Ian had other business interests as well. From February 1981 to March 2001, he was a member of the Board of Directors for The Bank of Nova Scotia, Canada's most international bank with a presence in more than 50 countries, and subsequent to his retirement from the Board, he was Honorary Director of the Bank. Ian was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Pace University for more than 30 years and also served as Trustee Emeritus after retiring from the Board. Finally, Ian also served on the Board of Directors for several other companies, including DONCASTERS, plc., Crestbrook Forest Industries Ltd., and TVX Gold Inc.

Ian was a very well educated man, having received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pace University in 1954 and a Master of Science degree from Columbia University in 1958. In May 1999, Ian received the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science from Pace University.

Ian was a professional soccer player and co-founded  the Oceanside United Soccer Club in 1962, coaching youth soccer teams for 40 years. Due to his skill as a player and dedication as a coach, Ian was inducted into the Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of fame in 2003 and into the Eastern New York Soccer Association Hall of Fame in 2007.

Ian was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for more than 57 years and served as a Treasurer and Member of the Board of Trustees for Grace Lutheran Church and School since 2005 until his passing. He was a member of the Board's Finance Committee and Endowment Committee and selflessly dedicated his time and efforts to the Grace Family.
