Joseph R. Vassallo was born June 28, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Lafayette High School where he met his future wife, Salvatrese Italia Bongiorno. Joe’s romance with “Sally” was interrupted by a call of duty. He happily enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving four years in the Burma Road, Joe came home and married his sweetheart. They settled in Babylon and started a family. Being a husband and father to six children was his greatest joy. Joe attended Pratt University at night while working in his father’s auto mechanic shop during the day. His professional career began with the prominent firm of Emory, Roth and Sons which contributed to his growing reputation of excellence throughout N.Y.C. His expertise soon led to his position with Sig Sommer Real Estate as Chief Project Manager for North Shore Towers, Queens, NY. His accomplishments elevated his stellar reputation and led to his position as Vice-President for Rudin Management Company. Joe and Jack Rudin not only shared the same birth date but they shared a lifelong friendship. Joe Vassallo succumbed to complications of Covid-19 pneumonia on August 22, 2021. He is survived by five sons (Charles, Joseph, Anthony, Robert and Michael), 3 daughter-in-laws, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
