Laurence Major Obituary

Laurence ‘Larry’ Major, age 89 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Laurence is survived by his son Laurence Jr. and his wife Jennifer. Laurence leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Carolyn Amanda, Luke Bernard and Brian Laurence. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Leonora.

Laurence is a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the distinction as a Private First Class from 1951 to 1953 assigned to the 24th Artillery Division under the Corps 8th US Army during the Pusan Perimeter and the US Army Field Artillery Battalion as an Acting Ammunition Corporal.

Laurence was home birth in Canarsie, Brooklyn, NY and son of Francis and Frances Major. Laurence is the middle of 5 children, Annabelle, Frank, William and Richard. Frank and Richard were preceded in death.

Laurence grew up in Canarsie worked various jobs starting at the age of six. After his tour of duty, he met his wife Leonora and dated until they married in 1959.  Laurence succeeded in the General Contractor business for over 25 years until he was hired as a Carpenter with NYC Parks. Laurence can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural craftsmanship ability. Until his retirement at the age of 77, his attention to detail to woodworking was legendary which he took with great pride, discipline and patriotism he learned in the US Army which never left him, as friends and family will attest.

Laurence’s greatest affection and admiration was for his family especially his wife Leonora. Since her  passing back in 2010, Laurence affectionately stated that their love for each was like no other patiently waiting for his ‘Baby Doll’ to take his hand and lead his ascension to be together forever again in heaven.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
