On Monday, January 25, 2021, Mari Hansen, known to many who loved her as Gaga, passed away at age 98.
Mari was born on March 2, 1922 in Rjukan, Norway. She moved from Norway to Brooklyn, New York in 1946 and married Arthur Hansen, formally of Farsund, Norway. Together they raised three children, Gary, Gail, and Sharon in Lynbrook, New York.
Mari was loved by many. After working as a crossing guard for the Lynbrook Police Department for 47 years, she retired at age 93. She was known for her strength, caring and compassionate spirit, and quick sense of humor. She loved spending time with her children, the late Gail Hansen, Sharon and Eddie Hughes, and Gary and Nancy Hansen; her grandchildren, Melissa and Chad Hughes, Danny and Jackie Hansen, Scott and Dianna Tortorici, the late Keith Hughes, Brian and Jane Hughes, and Kelli and Rob Von Bargen; and her great-grandchildren, Kylie, Blake, Connor, Brandon, Ryan, and Liam; in addition to many friends and family both in New York and in Norway.
A wake will be held on January 27th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home in Lynbrook, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House- New York Metro, 267-07 76th Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.
