Michael O'Rourke Obituary

Our Dad Michael O'Rourke has passed away suddenly on January 7th, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on May 22, 1928, in Rathpeak, Ballinasloe, County Roscommon, Ireland.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anastatia (Aine) (nee Wallace), and his devoted children, Eileen Kenny (Martin), Maureen Cori (Michael), Michael (Ann Marie), Sean (Tricia), and Siobhan Wilson (John-"Jay"). Dad “Pop Pop” was a proud and loving grandfather to Emily Cori (Carley), Liam, Austin, Luke, Jack, Annie, Michael, Quinn, Shannon, Logan, Sean, Ronan, Kristina, and Brendan. Also survived by his loving sisters, Mai (McGuinness), Roseann (Colleran) and Kathleen (Guinan). Plus, many nieces and nephews for whom Dad enjoyed many special times with over the years. In addition to many friends, he made through the years.

Dad is predeceased by his father (John), mother (Mary) (nee Fallon), Siblings (Marty, Tom, Delia, John Joe, P.J. and Willie)

Having honorably served in the Korean War, Dad was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1582, Inwood, New York. His commitment to service continued for over three decades with TWA-Trans World Airlines, where he retired after 32 years of dedicated work. His involvement in the community was unwavering; he was a fifty-six-year member of the Woodmere Fire Department. Where he served as the departments’ Chaplin for over 25 years. A testament to his dedication to public service.

Dad's commitment to faith and fraternity was evident in his longtime memberships with the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3 Nassau County and as a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He embodied the values of these organizations, spreading friendship and support throughout his community and faith.

He loved his garden and enjoyed the simple beauty of his zinnias, roses, and dahlias. Golfing with his family and friends. Playing cards at the Irish American Center and let’s not forget dancing.

Michael O'Rourke's life was defined by loving connections, a kind demeanor, and a friendly smile that could light up any room. He was the definition of a true gentleman.

He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
