Nina Catapano Obituary

Nina Catapano, age 89, passed away on March 14, 2024. She is predeceased by her parents Stanislao and Filomena DeMonico, brothers Carmine, Stephen, Antonio, Arnold and Cosmo, sister Angelina Trapani and many loving cousins from the DeMonaco, D'Andrea and Leuci families. Nina is survived by her husband Frank, two daughters Maria Squitieri (Mark) and Donna Catapano-Martinez (Rich), her sister Ann Chiesa (Bruno), her three wonderful grandchildren, Christian, Juliana and Nicholas, and many nieces and nephews who all loved and adored her.

Nina was born April 2, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York. She attended the Sarah J. Hale Vocational High School in Brooklyn, graduating in 1952. Nina worked for American Car and Foundry, Shell Oil Company, and Giftpack. She also had a license as a beautician. Her future husband proposed to her while she was working for Shell in Texas, and brought her back to New York for good. They married on April 11, 1970 in Lindenhurst, NY, and she moved to Lynbrook where she would remain for the rest of her long and beautiful life.

Nicknamed “Gabby” because she loved to talk, Nina loved recanting vivid and detailed stories of her childhood on Hull Street in Brooklyn. When she wasn't gabbing, Nina was eating. She loved a good party with delicious food (her pasta had to be "al dente”), fun drinks, and great music. Nina was a loving, caring, intelligent and strong woman who loved dancing, traveling with her husband, hitting the casinos, and baking for her family. Her baked clams, apple pies, cheese cakes and butter cookies during the holidays were always a favorite. When she rested those dancing shoes, Nina loved a good crossword puzzle, and playing card games, especially Pokeno. During her later years, Nina loved being around her grandchildren who brought endless smiles and laughter to her.

Family, friends, and others are invited to Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home to reminisce and honor the life of Nina.
