On Sunday, August 15, Paul George Gorra, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 88.
Paul was born on April 6, 1933 to Rose and James Gorra. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY surrounded by a loving extended family. After serving in Korea, he married Florence Maloney on May 26, 1956. They moved to Malverne, NY in 1959 where they resided for over 50 years and raised three children, Elizabeth, James and Jennifer.
In the family tradition, Paul joined with his cousin, George Gorra, in retail. Together they went on to build a successful partnership in retail and eventually real estate, as well as Agora restaurant, where Paul took pleasure in greeting customers with his welcoming personality.
Paul also loved to play golf, and enjoyed many years as a member of The Wheatley Hills Golf Club, where he made many enduring friendships.
Paul retired and after several years of snowbirding, Made Pompano Beach, FL his permanent home. He is survived by his wife, Florence, and their three children, along with their sons-in-law, Charles and Sean, and their grandchildren, Madeleine, Benjamin, Caroline, Megan, Liam and Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Thomas, James and John, and his grandson Peter.
The visitation will be held at Finch & Bruns Funeral Home, 34 Hempstead Avenue, Lynbrook, NY on Sunday, August 22nd from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00am on Monday, August 23rd at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 65 Wright Avenue, Malverne, NY 11565.
