Richard (Richie) Francis Hickey, son of the late Joseph F. Hickey and Florence Hickey was born on April 6, 1943 in the Bronx, NY. He passed away in his home in Lynbrook on March 21, 2021.
At the early age of 4, Richard showed an interest in cars and vehicles by playing with scooters, he had many! Upon graduation from DeWitt Clinton High School, he attended an auto mechanical training school. He started his career at General Motors in Westchester then moved onto Consolidated Edison where he retired after 47 years of employment. He also liked to play basketball, race cars and attend clubs/dances. It was at the once infamous club of the 1960’s, Cresthaven in Whitestone, Queens where he met his wife Katherine. They married on August 9, 1969. Not only is he survived by his wife but also his sister Dorothy Hickey (Kathleen Nokes), daughters Christine Ann Verdi (William), Tara Ann Hickey, Laura Ann Sperling (Jeffrey); grandchildren Robert Francis and Rebecca Frances Verdi and Ryan and Aidan Sperling.
Richard will be remembered for his sincere kindness and enjoying the simple things in life such as his love for sweet snacks, his children, grandchildren and dogs, most notably his cocker spaniel, Daisy. He also liked to dance at events and enjoyed the music of the Bee Gee’s and Barbra Streisand. Most importantly, Richard was a devoted family man. May he continue to feel our love for him in prayer and private conversation, just as he did here on earth.
