Richard J. Hunt, 75, of Lynbrook, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 23, 2022. Richard was born on August 10, 1946. He grew up in Inwood and Oceanside, New York.
Richard proudly served in Viet Nam as a Sergeant in the US Air Force. Upon discharge he briefly worked for National Airlines, until which time he decided to switch gears and attend Molly College where he earned his BSN, graduating as Valedictorian of his class. He began his career as an RN at Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway, Queens. He then moved on to Long Beach Medical Center where he served as Head Nurse in the ER and also worked in the Acute Rehabilitation Unit. Richard was very hard working and exceptionally dedicated to his positions, but he always found the time to add a little levity to uplift his staff, his colleagues and his patients.
Richard was very active in American Legion Post 335 in Lynbrook, NY. He eagerly and so proudly participated in many events to honor his country and his fellow Veterans. He was an avid coin collector and truly loved spending time making his garden a showplace in his neighborhood.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Debra, his children Jennifer (Paul), and Richie (Jeannie), six beautiful grandchildren, Daniella, Ava, Giovanna, Andrew, Valentina and Juliana, his loving sister in law Paula (Jimmy) and niece Jamie, all whom he loved with all his heart. He will be dearly missed.
