Salvatore Lombardo Obituary

Salvatore “Sal” Lombardo, age 98, of Lynbrook, NY, departed this life on January 30, 2023 peacefully surrounded by his family in his home. He was the quintessential patriarch and inspiration to all that adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Rosa Lombardo; the “mother” who raised him, Josephine Lombardo; and his sister, Josephine “Jo” Tarus. Also preceding him and waiting with open arms upon his heavenly arrival, his son, Jimmy Lombardo, and the love of his life, wife, Vera Lombardo. The celebration must be so grand.

He is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Roseann and Peter Bruzzo; cherished daughter-in-law, Maryann Lombardo; his adored grandchildren, Lenny Scorcia, Maria Scorcia, James Lombardo, Elizabeth Bruzzo, and Emily Bruzzo; his pride and joy, great grandson, Domenic Bruzzo-Morello; his dearly loved nieces, Kathy and Nancy Valentine; and so many other loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sal was born in New York, New York, on January 28, 1925. He served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas. After his military service, he owned and operated his own gas station and mechanic shop for years, until he went on to work for the railroad until his retirement. He remained friends with many of his work colleagues and exemplified hard work and dedication.

Sal was a proud member of the Moose Lodge where he served too many leadership roles to count. The friends he and Vera made throughout their years with the Moose remained dear until the end. And when he wasn’t writing the Moose monthly paper or planning an event, Sal could he found on the bowling alley where he stayed for decades with more of his cherished friends.

There was nothing Sal couldn’t fix and a person he wouldn’t befriend. He welcomed all into his home and into his family and we are all better for it. He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend, and all who loved him will carry his legacy and love.

His family and loved ones would like to express gratitude to his dear caregiver, Rosalee James, for the diligent care he received during his final years. We cannot thank you enough for helping ensure his wish to remain at home. We are grateful for all the love and memories that have been shared with us. If you knew Sal, then you are part of our family.

And to our beloved Sal, another job well done, another job well done

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
