ASTARITA, SERAFINA, affectionately known and loved as SARAH, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2020 at home in Lynbrook, New York, surrounded by her family. Born on Christmas Day 1927 in Brooklyn, New York.
Beloved wife of the late Michael A. Astarita, mother of Anne Astarita (Adam) and the late Fred Astarita. Devoted grandmother of Janine Riomao (John), Philip Astarita (Christyn), Tina D'Errico (Paul), Jennifer Baginski Lignos (Michael), Michael Baginski and Ashley Astarita. Cherished by five great-grandchildren, Deanna, Anthony, Rosaria, Lilliana and Paul.
Sarah was born and raised in Brooklyn and when it was time to raise a family, she and her husband moved to Lynbrook, where she was a lifelong resident up until the time she retired to Florida. Sarah was a faithful member of Our Lady of Peace Church for many years, donating her time as a member of the Altar Society. Sarah worked for over ten years at the Village Hall in Lynbrook. You could always see her smiling face as she came up to greet you when you had to pay your traffic ticket fines. Sarah always had a smile on her face, even when greeting unhappy motorists. Sarah shared many delightful stories of her years at Village Hall and the wonderful coworkers she was fortunate enough to call friends.
Sarah and her husband retired to Margate, Florida where she spent many years living at a senior community called Holiday Springs Village. Sarah and Michael were the ultimate snowbirds, spending late September through early May in Florida and then at the home of her daughter in Lynbrook for the summer months. Sarah would always return home for a visit during the Christmas holidays to be with her family and celebrate her birthday.
Sarah was loved by everyone who knew her. She always had a way of making you laugh and seeing the joy in life. She will be truly missed by everyone. Those of us who knew Sarah will always remember her advice to almost everything, which was "say three Hail Marys".
Love you more.
