Sten "Gus" Elowson

On 5/28/2022, the Elowson family lost their greatest treasure. Sten "Gus" Elowson was the beloved father of Vanessa, Mark & Maria, father-in-law to Susan and Paul and husband of the late Helen M. Elowson.

Dad was born on 12/23/1927 to Sten & Helga Elowson, who immigrated from Sweden and settled in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and was loving brother to the late Brita Sciortino.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served his country with honors.  After being discharged, he married Helen, the love of his life.  They moved to Malverne, Long Island in 1961 where they raised their 3 children.

Dad was a car enthusiast and jack of all trades.  If he wasn't fixing something on his car, he was fixing something around the house.  He always enjoyed the company of family and friends.  Some of our fondest memories are backyard barbecues at our house or relative's houses and our family vacations in Vermont.

We couldn't ask for a better dad.  As teenagers, he was always understanding no matter what predicaments we found ourselves in (Mom was not as understanding but we loved them both the same!)

Speaking on behalf of our family and friends, we know our father was truly loved and everyone looked up to him and cared about his well being in his final years.
